Mac as a choice between corporate standards and for your employees

Apple Mac can be a way to ensure not only higher productivity and attract young talent. It can also be a way to lower IT operating and management costs. When people work with devices they like, everything works a little better. aricoma avatar

Why consider Apple Mac as an option for your business?

Many companies around the world realize that employee satisfaction starts with the things they work with every day. The ability to choose work equipment according to personal preferences, whether it be Microsoft Windows devices or Apple MacBooks or Macs, is becoming a topic of discussion here as well. Some progressive Czech companies are introducing similar benefits for employees, and Aricoma is also preparing to do so.
Based on its experience, Apple claims that introducing Mac products as an optional work platform brings benefits across the entire organization—from employees to finance, HR, and IT departments. In reality, however, questions often arise as to whether the total cost of IT operations will be higher with more expensive hardware, whether internal IT will be able to secure the operation of all necessary business applications on both Microsoft Windows and Apple iOS platforms, whether it will be possible to easily manage the work and private environments of business users in a hybrid ecosystem, and so on.

Happier employees, stronger company brand

The ability to work on a favorite device is important to people. Many employees have long-term experience with Apple products in their personal lives, and thanks to the ability to use them at work, they are generally happier, more efficient, newcomers adapt more quickly, and experienced and important employees are more loyal with similar benefits.

For the company, this means not only better performance and team motivation, but also a positive external perception of the brand, as Mac is considered a modern and premium work tool. Therefore, the option to choose Mac among company standards for employees definitely increases the attractiveness of the employer – both when recruiting new talent and when trying to retain key colleagues.

Higher productivity and performance right out of the box

Mac offers an environment that people can quickly get to grips with – regardless of whether they are switching from another system or already have experience with macOS. The system is intuitive, fast, and comes with everything you need for everyday work right out of the box. Whether it's email, video calls, working with documents, or team collaboration. Mac works seamlessly with commonly used tools such as Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, and Zoom.

Whether you use M3 or M4 chips in the new MacBook Air and MacBook Pro, the impact on your work is similar. Breakthrough performance and top-notch energy efficiency. A single charge often lasts for an entire workday or longer. Unique Apple Intelligence is integrated into Mac, iPhone, iPad, and iPhone to help users work with ease and high security.

Lower IT operating costs

Is this claim really realistic? At first glance, Apple Mac may seem like a more expensive option for business users. But with the right approach to purchasing new technology for employees and effective IT management practices, it can offer companies a surprisingly favorable price-to-long-term-value ratio.

The device has a long service life, requires less intervention from IT support, and remains secure and powerful for many years thanks to regular updates. The key to success is well-thought-out organizational processes for purchasing and repurchasing technology, effective deployment, and the use of the right IT management tools—and we are happy to help you with that.

Let's discuss experiences on how to set up processes

What should you watch out for?

At the same time, however, it is fair to say that Macs have their own specific characteristics that need to be taken into account when considering their use in businesses. For example, some models have a limited number of ports, so it is advisable to use docking stations to connect monitors, networks, or other peripherals.

Software compatibility may also be an issue in certain operations—most common business tools today work with macOS without any problems, but some specialized applications (especially for advanced data processing, accounting, logistics, or industry) are only fully available in the Microsoft environment. For these users, we recommend a virtualization/remote desktop solution for accessing the necessary applications. Despite these factors, however, Mac remains a more efficient choice than Windows devices for a wide range of roles and teams.

Simpler management, strong security

From an IT perspective, Macs are not only reliable but also easy to manage. Thanks to modern tools such as Apple Business Manager and Microsoft Intune, devices can be set up remotely before they even reach the user. The user then simply opens the box, turns on the Mac, and everything they need is already set up (zero-touch deployment). Managing Macs is no more complicated than managing other platforms, and in fact allows IT teams to unify management across operating systems.

macOS itself emphasizes security—data is encrypted, the system is protected against malware, and security is automatically updated. Its users can handle many common needs themselves. This allows IT to focus on developing technology within the company instead of constantly dealing with incidents.

Tips and experiences from Aricoma

As we are currently preparing to implement the "Mac as an option" program internally, we can share some insights, tips, and experiences.

It is crucial to clarify what is communicated to employees regarding company IT standards and what the rules are. It is also useful for IT department staff to use Apple Mac products for some time so that they can find out for themselves in which situations and with which applications users may encounter practical difficulties. And then, if you don't have Apple fans among your team leaders, the necessary drive to include Macs in your company standards will be lacking.

Recommendation from our IT manager

  • Analyze the readiness of your IT infrastructure and the compatibility of business applications for the MacOS environment
  • Define the company roles/positions/activities for which Mac is suitable/permitted and, conversely, for whom it is not
  • If an employee with no experience wants to start using a Mac, they should have the opportunity to try it out first
  • Carefully set the lifecycle for replacing company devices—3 years for Windows, 4 years or more for Apple
  • Define rules for purchasing equipment after its useful life—at commercial residual value, internally or externally
  • Choose whether to use the employee's Apple ID or the company's Apple ID, or a hybrid model; this is essential for management
  • Deploy high-quality management tools (e.g., MS Intune) to manage the combination of company and private data
  • Set clear rules for internal IT support, especially if the use of private Apple IDs is allowed
