Project APTITUDE
Aricoma is helping build the European digital identity within the APTITUDE project.
What is APTITUDE?
In line with the eIDAS 2.0 Regulation, which addresses the challenges of digital transformation and supports a unified European digital identity framework, APTITUDE contributes to the European Commission’s goal to ensure that every EU citizen has access to a trusted digital identity by 2026. The project focuses on privacy, security, usability, and cross-border interoperability, creating a scalable and legally robust European digital identity ecosystem.
The APTITUDE consortium is led by the French Ministry of the Interior (Ministère de l'Intérieur) and brings together 117 public and private organisations from 12 EU Member States (Czech Republic, Germany, Greece, France, Hungary, Italy, Lithuania, Latvia, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Ukraine), including government bodies, industry leaders, and technology experts. The partners will pilot and gradually roll out the European Digital Identity Wallet (EUDIW) across real-life scenarios, strengthening Europe’s digital sovereignty, data protection, and citizens’ control over their personal identity.
The APTITUDE pilots will be launched in phases to test how the wallet operates in practical use cases. The initiative supports the European Commission’s ambition to achieve the full deployment of the EUDIW by 2026, with the wallet being made available to the public progressively as Member States and participating organisations complete integration and certification.
APTITUDE will validate and demonstrate the EUDIW across four key piloting domains designed to integrate seamlessly into the European digital wallet:
- Digital Travel Credentials (DTC): Fast and seamless border crossing using digital travel documents stored in the wallet.
- Ticketing & Check-In: Hotel check-ins, boarding passes, and transport tickets stored directly in the wallet.
- Mobile Vehicle Registration Certificates (MVRC): Digital vehicle ownership and rental processes.
- Payments & Banking: Secure and convenient digital transactions for both online and in-person payments.
Aricoma’s role in the project
We help verify how the European Digital Identity Wallet works in everyday life. The main areas are travel, vehicle documentation, and payments, all tested in real-life scenarios. Current work focuses on Digital Travel Credentials connected to the wallet and verified during border checks to ensure fast and secure identity confirmation for travelers.
In the vehicle domain, a Mobile Vehicle Registration Certificate is being developed and linked to national systems, allowing citizens to store technical and ownership information directly in the wallet. In the payment area, secure transaction approvals are being tested using BankID stored in the wallet, enabling simple, fast, and unified payment authorization across EU countries.
