Digital Healthcare Ecosystem
Modern healthcare relies not only on high-quality care but also on the ease and security with which patients and physicians can access information. EZKarta and myHealth@myHands are paving the way toward a connected, digital, and intuitive care system.
EZKarta: The Patient Gateway to Digital Services in the Czech Rep
As of 2025, EZKarta has shifted its focus significantly toward preventive care. The Ministry of Health introduced the "My Health" section, which consolidates information on preventive check-ups and screening examinations. It also identifies instances where a user is eligible for a screening that has not yet been completed, aiming to streamline the path to prevention and incentivize timely examinations.
Furthermore, EZKarta is designed to serve as the gateway to the broader digitalization of the healthcare system. According to the legislative framework for digitalization, starting in 2026, the app is set to enable the viewing of examination results, access to personal medical documentation, and communication with physicians through secure message sharing via the National Portal. In the same context, the introduction of e-Requisitions (eŽádanky) is expected to accelerate the referral process between providers and the delivery of results directly to the EZKarta app.
What EZKarta offers the user in practice:
Patients gain an overview of vaccinations and preventive care in a single application, with incremental access to further parts of their medical records. From a system perspective, it acts as a unified "front door" for citizens, connecting to national services and registries to help simplify the exchange of information between patients and the healthcare ecosystem.
myHealth@myHands: A European Layer for Citizen-Empowered Data
A key cornerstone is connecting existing national infrastructures with MyHealth@EU (the European digital health service infrastructure) and emphasizing interoperability—the ability of systems to communicate via standardized terminology and a unified data exchange format. Public documentation consistently highlights the integration of the EUDI Wallet (European Digital Identity) for secure login and data access, with project implementation for this component scheduled by 2026.
The project is also vast in terms of organization: it brings together dozens of partners from multiple countries, including government institutions, technology firms, research entities, and patient organizations, to facilitate implementation, share best practices, and achieve practical deployment of services.
What myHealth@myHands offers the user in practice:
When a citizen travels, relocates, or seeks care in another country, their health information should not remain "trapped" in a local system. The goal is to provide secure access to personal data, control over data sharing, and a consistent digital experience across Europe, built on standards and robust identity verification.
